About Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand a mystical land of mountains and mythologies is a magical state in India where one can witness and experience the magical confluence of beauty and divinity. Its natural beauty along with its cultural heritage and its humble people put together thereby has something to offer for every traveller. Uttarakhand was formed on the 9th November 2000 as the 27th State of India, Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, it is largely a hilly State, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. The state is divided into two divisions or regions, Garhwal and Kumaon, with a total of 13 districts. Also very popularly known as “Dev Bhoomi” or the Land of Gods, Uttarakhand is home to some of the most sacred and revered Hindu pilgrimage sites including the Char Dham consisting of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri which are nestled in the mighty mountains. The ever green and ever charming state of Uttarakhand is rich in its beauty, divinity, cultural heritage, food and folk lore. Uttarakhand is the second fastest growing state within India. While agriculture is one of the most significant sectors, other key sectors include but not restricted to are tourism, hydropower, IT, biotechnology, medical, pharmaceuticals, automobile industries, engineering, teaching and the list goes on. The people of Uttarakhand are extremely hardworking, diligent and will be seen in the workforce across all sectors not only in India butacross the globe. A few such Uttarakhandis in Auckland got together in the year 2013 to extend their help and support to the people back home who were affected by the crisis caused due to the wrec and havoc as a result of the Himalayan Tsunami. This resulting in the inception of Uttarakhand Association of New Zealand. The one and only registered charitable organisation in New Zealand representing the state of Uttarakhand.
